| And Cain Knew His Wife | Added: March-16-04 |
Answer: Note that Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, that is, in the land of vagrancy or wandering (see Genesis 4:12). Exactly how much time or how far he wandered before finding a wife is not stated. However, he found a wife from the extended family from the descendants of Adam, his father. Scritprue is clear that Adam and Eve had other sons and daughters (Genesis 5:4). In fact, Adam lived to be 930 years old (Genesis 5:4-5). There must have been many children. In addition (and of course), the children of each generation would have given birth to many other children. Over the course of 930 years that could be a bunch of folks, the potential population would be staggering. It has been said that if only one half of Adam's children lived, and if only half of the living got married, and if only half of the married had children, then, even at the three half-rates, the population would still number more than a million at Adam's death. Who was she? I don't know her name, but she was of Cain's kinfolk.
